Copy a UMD to your computer using a USB Cable (For Slim and Fat PSPs)

Copy a UMD to your computer using a USB Cable.


If you have 'Custom Firmware 3.52 M33-4 or higher' there is a UMD Copier feature built into the custom firmware.
For older custom firmware you will need to follow the instructions in the 'Custom Firmware 3.52 and lower' section.

The dumping process should be similar on Macintosh and Linux computers as well as its just a basic 'file copy'
Its probably best to plug in your AC Adaptor because copying a UMD Disc will use a bit of battery power.

Copying a 1.42gb UMD Disc with the AC Adaptor plugged in took me about 20 minutes.
The transfer rate started at ~1.3 Megabytes per second at the start and increased to ~1.7 mbytes per second towards the end.
(The PSP UMD drive is 'CLV' drive', this means its slower to read data
at the start of the UMD disc and it gets faster near end of the UMD disc)


To copy a UMD using Custom Firmware '3.52 M33-4' and higher:
(This copying method will work on both the PSP Slim and PSP FAT as long as you have 3.52 M33-4 or higher custom firmware)

Setup - Using VSHMenu:
1. Turn on your PSP and go to the VSH Menu (the main menu)
2. Insert the UMD Disc you want to copy.
3. Press Select and on the VSHMenu change "USB Device" to "UMD Disc"
4. Go to "Copying the UMD section" below.


Setup - Using Recovery mode: (if you have the VSHMenu disabled.)
1. Turn off your PSP by holding the power button for 4 seconds.
2. Turn on the PSP while holding the 'R' button to access recovery mode.
3. Select 'Configuration' and press 'X'
4. Scroll down to 'XMB USB Device' and press 'X' until you see "UMD Disc"
(It scrolls through 'Memory stick -> Flash 0 -> Flash 1 -> Flash 2 -> Flash 3 -> UMD Disc)
5. Scroll up to the 'back' option and press 'X'
6. scroll to the 'Exit' option and press 'X', the PSP will load the XMB menu.
7. Insert the UMD Disc you want to copy.
8. Go to "Copying the UMD" section below.


Copying the UMD:
1. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and activate a USB connection.
2. You should see a new 'Removable Drive' appear in 'My Computer',
inside that new drive is a file called 'UMD9660.ISO'

3. Copy this file and paste it to a folder on your computer and the UMD Disc will start copying to your computer.
The copying process may take up to 15 minutes, It depends on the size of the game...

4. Once the UMD has finished copying to your computer, you can close the USB connection.
5. Rename the file you copied to your computer from 'UMD9660.ISO' to the name of the game you just copied.
(you might need to go to the properties of the ISO file and remove the 'read only' attribute so you can rename the file)

6. To copy another UMD, insert the new UMD Disc and repeat steps 1 -> 5
If you have finished, change the USB Device back to "Memory Stick".
(see the setup section above for instructions)


You can now copy this ISO into the ISO folder on your memory stick or you can compress it to CSO using a program like UMDGEN.

To copy a UMD using Custom Firmware '3.52 M33-3' and lower:
(FAT PSPs + 1.50 Addon files only)
This method will not work on the Slim PSP the 'USBSSS' program is not compatible with the Slim PSP.

This dumping program is really small and uses less then 96kb on your memory stick.


Installing the program to your memory stick:
1. Connect your PSP to your computer via USB cable.
2. Extract the Rar file to your memory stick:

• Custom Firmware Users: Extract the RAR file to your PSP \ GAME150 folder.
• Firmware 1.50 Users: Extract the RAR file to your PSP \ GAME folder.

3. Close USB connection


Copying the UMD:
1. Insert the UMD into your PSP and plug in the USB cable.
2. Go to your PSP 'Game' -> 'Memory stick' menu and start the 'USB Special System Storage' program.
3. When the program starts press "X" on the 'Virtual FAT16 . UMD ISO-9660' option.
4. Your will now have a new drive letter in 'My Computer', open the new drive letter.
5. You will see an ISO file called 'UMD9660.ISO'.
6. Copy the 'UMD9660.ISO' file to your hard disk, you can view the dumping progress on your PSP.

7. Once the copy has finished, Press 'X' on your PSP to close the USB connection to your computer.
8. Remove the 'Read-only' attribute on the ISO by going to the File properties and unchecking the "read only" checkbox.
(Windows copies the "read-only" attribute on the copied file because the UMD drive is read only.)

9. Rename the ISO file you copied to your hard disk to the name of the game you dumped.
10. You can now now insert another UMD and start from step 3 or choose the 'Exit to XMB' option to exit the program.

Note: you can also view the files stored in Flash0, Flash1, Flash2, Flash3 and your memory stick to your computer.
Your PSP Flash memory is 'READ ONLY', So the Flash memory and system data are safely protected.
You cannot write to flash so you cannot brick your PSP using this program.

Menu Option = What It does
Virtual FAT16 . UMD ISO-9660 = Access the UMD Drive of your PSP as an ISO file
Virtual FAT16 . IntFlash & Sysmem = View IMG Files of your PSP flash memory and system memory.
FAT Filesystem . lflash:0,0 = View Flash0. This is where your firmware is installed. (23.9mb)
FAT Filesystem . lflash:0,1 = View Flash1. This is where your PSP Settings are stored. (3.92mb)
FAT Filesystem . lflash:0,2 = View Flash2. This space is currently unused (944kb)
FAT Filesystem . lflash:0,3 = View Flash3. This space is currently unused (880kb)
Normal . Memorystick = Access your memory stick. This is the same as making a USB connection in the XMB.
